More than 70 athletes from the Sverdlovsk region will participate in the Russian National Championship. The tournament starts today in the city of Cheboksary.
The Russian National Championship will continue until March 1st. It will determine the roster of the National Team for participation in the upcoming World and European Championships. Winners will participate in the World Championships in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) and silver medalists will compete at the European Championship in Ekaterinburg in May.
The roster of the men’s team of the Sverdlovsk region counts 40 athletes. The most experienced Ural wrestler is 36-year-old 6-time world champion Alsim Chernoskulov (up to 100 kg). The youngest representative of the Sverdlovsk region is 20-year-old Evgeny Eremin (up to 52 kg). Despite his young age, he twice became the silver medalist of the Russian National Championship, and won the silver and bronze medals of the European Championship.
16 Sverdlovsk women will participate in the women's tournament. 8 men will compete for medals in combat sambo.
