The European Sambo Championships to take place in Ekaterinburg from 27 to 29 of November 2020 were cancelled because of the unfavourable epidemiological situation in the world (COVID-19 risks). The decision was made by European Sambo Federation (ESF). The tournament would have been the 39th in total and the 1st in the history of the capital of Urals. Championships never get so far to the East, right to the border of Europe and Asia. The roster of Russian national team has already been determined according to the results of recent Russian championship in Cheboksary (Chuvashia). Four members of the Russian team should have represented Urals and the home city of the championships. That’s Olesya Posylkina (72 kg) from Ekaterinburg and three sportsmen from famous Sambo club UMMC from Verkhnaya Pyshma, a satellite city of Ekaterinburg: Vladimir Gladkikh (57 kg), Denis Sukhanov (82 kg) and Alsim Chernoskulov (100 kg).
Otherwise, the president of the ESF Sergey Eliseev stated that Ekaterinburg will remain among the potential host-cities for the Eropean championships in 2021 (if Italy refuses) or in 2022.
