Evgeny Kuyvashev signed a decree for preparations to host in Ekaterinburg the European Sambo Championship on May 22-24 - regional information deparnment statement said. By his decree, the head of the Middle Urals instructed to create an Organizing Committee for preparation for the event. He also instructed the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, together with the Sambo Federation of the Sverdlovsk Region, to ensure the holding of the Championship at a high organizational level. The Ministry of Health will need to provide quality medical care to participants, and the Ministry of Public Security will ensure law enforcement during the Championship.
According to Viktor Ashikhin, the president of the Sambo Federation of the Sverdlovsk Region, preparations for the event have already begun.
In particular, in August of this year, more than 30 of the most talented and promising young sambo wrestlers of the Middle Urals who attended pre-season training in the Orenburg region, in addition to sambo training, took a special course of a novice referee to help official referees in servicing the matches of the Sambo Championship.
By the beginning of the new school year, the Sambo Federation of the Sverdlovsk Region and the UMMC Sambo Club released the school diaries for young sambo wrestlers. In addition to the “traditional” part with the schedule of classes, they contain interesting facts from the history of sambo, advices of famous champions, information on the basic rules and techniques of sambo, as well as various contests and quizzes. These school diaries are handed over to the primary school students of ordinary schools of the Middle Urals by the brightest stars of the Ural Sambo. This time, the school diaries for the 2019/2020 academic year are fully devoted to the upcoming European Championship in Ekaterinburg.
Leonid Rapoport, the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Sverdlovsk Region, noted that today in the Sverdlovsk region more than 8 thousand people in almost 30 municipalities are engaged in sambo wrestling with more than 500 sambo wrestlers in Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
In May this year at the European Championships in Spanish Gijon Ekaterinburg was officially declared the capital of the European Championship 2020. In Gijon two Sverdlovsk citizens won medals. Both are representatives of the UMMC Sambo Club from Verkhnyaya Pyshma. Vladimir Gladkikh (up to 57 kg) won his second championship title in his career, and newcomer Yevgeny Yeremin (up to 52 kg) brought the Russian team a silver award.
